Gary Rivenes
Gary Rivenes is Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer of Cloud Peak Energy, based in Gillette Wyoming. Mr. Rivenes is responsible for all three of Cloud Peak Energy’s operating mines as well as the site-based technical and maintenance groups. The Cloud Peak Energy coal mines are located in the Powder River Basin of Wyoming and Montana.
Mr. Rivenes began his career with Rio Tinto Energy America in 1992 and has worked in the mining industry at several locations and within diverse disciplines, establishing significant experience in engineering, production and mine management. Over the past 17 years, he has held such positions as Mining Engineer, Production Supervisor, Production Planner/Engineer, Operations Supervisor and Technical Services Manager at RTEA’s Antelope and Jacobs Ranch Mines and Rio Tinto’s Colowyo Mine. Mr. Rivenes was General Manager at the Jacobs Ranch and Antelope Mines and Vice President, Operations in RTEA’s corporate headquarters prior to his appointment as Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Rivenes holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from Montana College of Mineral Science & Technology.
